What is the hourly rate and is there a discount for booking multiple hours? Our rate is incredible. With the amount of gear that you get, the level of engineering, we charge $65 an hour and I think that is … It is a bargain. Now, we do have a minimum. You need to book at least three hours at that rate, and then we can usually work something out if you’re booking in bulk. So big chunks of time, we can negotiate a little bit. There isn’t a ton of room because we need to keep the lights on, but generally we love what we do, and we’re willing to work with you.
What preamps and output gear are available for use and what sources would you use the most? We have a whole pallet of preamps. SSL VHD Preamps, we have a rack of those, some Neve Clones, APIs, we have some Earthworks Preamps, which are really super, super clean and clear. Let’s see, Rupert Neve designs, 517, we have a bunch of 500 Series Preamps as well. We also have 500 Series EQs and compresses, API EQs, Purple EQs, a bunch of stuff. We have a Bettermaker EQ as well, which is a pultec model, which sounds fantastic. We also have SSL EQs and compressors, we have racks of these X-Rack compressors, so the actual compressors and EQs from the consoles we have racked. The choice of outboard stuff is pretty much limitless. What about the preamps models of [inaudible 00:01:11]? Oh, that’s right. Okay. Also, on our actual interface we have modeling of preamps. The actual preamps is really clean but they’ve also introduced a way of imparting the sound of API, Neve, and a bunch of other brands so you get that vintage sound, as well. We have a huge pallet. Okay, great.
What should I do before booking time at the studio? Practice. Rehearse. If you have some way of recording at home a little bit, and getting ideas for instrumentation, vocals, have all of that worked out beforehand. Have the instrumentation, and arrangement worked out beforehand. Have your vocals, and delivery very, very well rehearsed. Then get a good night’s sleep. Bring a good attitude. Also I would suggest communicating very clearly with what your expectations might be. You might be adjusting your expectations as you get used to the studio environment a little bit, and you know what you can, and cannot get done in a certain period of time. Really communication, and practice are central to the whole thing
Where is the studio located? We are located basically in Central Miami right off of Bird Road and 74th Avenue which is very close to Palmetto. It’s really dead center. We have everything close by, hotels. The airport is a 10 minute drive or less. Hotels all over the place, restaurants, all types of shops. It’s a great location.
